FOREWORD
This book is in every sense a chiropractic text on paediatrics. Many authors tend to lose their way with this important subject and include a lot of irrelevant information purely because they do not understand cranial physiology.
Dr Williams has produced a manuscript which takes the Doctor of Chiropractic through the various stages of pregnancy and birth, to the examination and treatment of the neonate.
The narrative is descriptive and informative, the author using a chronological format of examination, assessment and correction in all aspects of clinical evaluation. The book has a good flow to it and is easy to understand and follow, and as is true with all well thought out text books, the illustrations and references are numerous and explicit.
The chapter on the craniosacral system is comprehensively dealt with and should encourage students to learn, understand and appreciate the physiology of this magnificent system that controls and brings about homeostasis to the central nervous system.
To attempt to be a chiropractic paediatrician without this knowledge leaves one unequipped and deficient in ones ability to evaluate and treat the paediatric patient.
Coupled with this the author dedicates a chapter to Plagiocephaly which further elaborates the necessity to be conversant with the types of fascial strains that take place in the neonatal cranium. These strains if not corrected bring about the aetiology of the dyslexic, dyspraxic and dysfunctional traits one comes across in clinical practice. One needs to understand and clarify these if one is to be successful in taking care of infants and children.
In conclusion it is my opinion that Dr Williams has used his expansive knowledge base to produce a well written and illustrated book on a vital subject, and this text should be included in every chiropractic paediatrician’s library.
